Who we are
We are a church that speaks and loves on two levels:
1) What's done is done. We're less concerned with yesterday and MOST concerned with the purpose of God still ahead of you! God is the only one who can deal with your yesterdays and do anything with them. We'll leave God's miraculous work to Him. Certainly there are things only God can do!
2) We will assess our “todays” with honesty, divine direction, and love, we endeavor to speak purpose into your future. We often know what's broken or lacking in our own lives. We need to speak as God speaks! As Gideon was called “mighty man of valor,” God often calls you what He is making you! We'll infuse you with who God is calling you to be and we'll equip you to achieve it! We can't wait for you to join our family at SHC!
Where we come from
Shepherd’s Heart Church began as Poteau Pentecostal Church of God in 1971. A Texan minister named Clyde Hess felt the call of God to Poteau, Oklahoma to pioneer a Pentecostal, spirit-filled church in the area. As Pastor Hess obeyed God and moved his family consisting of his wife and five children, God honored that obedience and the church flourished. Land was donated to the ministry and the church was built on McKenna Street in Poteau where the church stands today. Shepherd's Heart Church continues to be a hub of Pentecostal power to this very day.
Where we're headed
We're pressing... we're pressing toward an understanding that Heaven doesn't stop in a building or start in one for that matter. We believe that Heaven's agenda is only realized through relationship with Jesus! We're pressing for a return to prayer. We believe it (prayer) changes things and changes people to change things. We're headed toward improved connection with our community. We know we're not called to be a church “instead of another,” but “in addition to.” Together, with one heartbeat, we're headed toward a community of faith in God and to accomplish the purpose of God in Poteau.
